Four Tips for Managing Stress

"Acquire inner peace and a multitude will find their salvation near you." - Catherine de Hueck Doherty

Enjoy these last days of summer and learn how to improve your life by reducing your stress level.

Stress can affect your sleep, energy level, and appetite. It can impair your ability to concentrate and to be productive at work. More importantly, stress can affect your mood, relationships, and your ability to enjoy your life.

Emotions can affect your physical health, too. If you're already having a health problem, anxiety can make it worse.

There is good news, however - there are some simple ways to alleviate your stress.

Try these four tips to lower your stress.

1. Nurture yourself - be your own best friend. Allow yourself a little quiet time every day. Even just 10 minutes of doing nothing and letting yourself breathe can lower your anxiety level, your heart rate, and your blood pressure while helping your inner wisdom prioritize and come up with new ways of dealing with troublesome issues.

2. Enjoy spending time with friends and family to prevent feeling isolated. Make time to have fun. To save money, be creative about how you can enjoy activities that bring you pleasure. If you enjoy a meal and a show, share expenses by having friends over for a potluck dinner and a movie borrowed from your local library. Visit a local park or playground, go for a hike, or go window-shopping at a thrift store without your credit cards.

3. Exercise daily - getting physical is a great way to release tension and help yourself feel better. Take relaxation classes such as yoga, meditation, or tai chi.

4. Add regular massage to your stress-management strategy. Massage melts your muscular tension, soothes away your anxiety, and elevates your endorphin levels for a great feeling of health and well being.

Don't let stress harm your quality of life. Make your own health and peace of mind a top priority. Take time to take care of yourself, and enjoy the rest of summer.
